Is Preventative Botox Worth the Hype?

Preventative Botox

In the past, Botox was considered as one of those things that many people will only need to think about 20 years down the line. Largely used by an older demographic to smooth the signs of aging, Botox is gaining new traction with a much younger crowd. Preventive – or preventative – Botox is now being used by women in their late twenties to early thirties to stop wrinkles before they start.

People develop wrinkles because, over time, skin weakens and can’t effectively bounce back from folding caused by laughing, smiling, furrowing your brow, and all the other motions your face makes on a regular basis. Rather than using Botox to smooth existing wrinkles, it is now being used to relax these facial muscles so that wrinkles do not form in the first place. By using discrete, precise Botox injections, doctors can target specific muscles that may be pulling in an undesired direction and allow these muscles to work more evenly.

Preventative Botox helps to relax and retrain facial muscles, preventing formation of dynamic wrinkles that are caused by small, consistent muscle movements. These areas typically include the sides of the mouth and eyes, between the brows, and across the forehead. “Freezing” the muscles in these areas of the face prevents their movement and resulting wrinkles.

While experts say preventative Botox really works at reversing mild lines and preventing others from developing, it may not be for everyone. The earliest signs of wrinkles can be lingering creases from facial expressions, or resting wrinkles. Just furrowed your brow? If the lines linger, it may be safe to assume wrinkles are beginning to develop; If your skin bounces back quickly, you don’t need to consider Botox just yet.

Often a plastic surgeon can tell where Botox would be most beneficial just by looking at your face during a consultation. At Estetica Institute, you will meet with our Injection Specialist who will discuss the treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas with each individual patient. We strive to offer every patient the best experience and results possible with every treatment. To schedule your Botox consultation and treatment, please call 561-776-9555 today.

The Latest in Plastic Surgery Trends

Plastic Surgery Trends

A recent report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons states that breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic procedure performed in the U.S. for the second year in a row. These statistics show that 290,467 patients opted for breast augmentation surgery. The popularity of breast augmentation procedures can likely be contributed to a number of factors including the affordability of the procedure, the continued improvement in technology seen each year, and the fact that it caters to a very large percentage of the population.

Data shows that an estimated 17.1 million surgical and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures were performed in 2016. Cosmetic surgical procedures saw an overall increase of 4 percent, compared to minimally invasive procedures, which grew by only 3 percent.

Additionally, facelifts were found to have increased in popularity in the past year. Also among the most popular plastic surgery procedures were; liposuction with 235,237 procedures, nose reshaping with 223,018 procedures, and eyelid surgery with 209,020 procedures.

Botulinum Toxin Type A was among the minimally invasive procedures which saw the greatest increase of 4 percent in 2016. This procedure is followed by soft tissue fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removal and microdermabrasion.

Fat grafting is another procedure which has seen a recent increase. Specifically breast augmentation using fat grafting saw of 72 percent increase in 2016. This procedure involves harvesting fat from one body part and placing it into another body part, commonly the buttocks and breasts. It is said that this trend can be attributed to the idea of “less is more,” which is an ideology that is gaining popularity in plastic surgery.

It is also speculated that the increase in social media and online resources have played a significant role in the type of plastic surgery procedures requested by patients. This combined with improvements in technology are showing patients that there are techniques which can provide more natural-looking results.

Obalon is Latest in Weight Loss Technology

About Obalon

The Obalon Balloon System is the first and only swallowable, FDA-approved balloon treatment option for weight loss. The lightweight balloon works by occupying space in the stomach leading individuals to eat less, making weight loss much easier. This non-surgical treatment lasts 6-months and is coupled with a professionally supervised nutrition and exercise program. The team at Estetica Institute is proud to offer the Obalon Balloon System at our cosmetic surgery center in Palm Beach Gardens.

The Obalon Balloon System was invented to be a non-surgical device for weight loss that:

  • Is designed for convenient placement.
  • Achieves weight loss without severe side effects. Less than 1% of adverse events were severe or serious in nature.
  • Facilitates progressive weight loss over the entire treatment period when combined with a moderate intensity weight loss and behavior modification program.

What makes Obalon unique?

The Obalon Balloon System combines several high level technologies, with four distinct features, including:

The balloon film: novel, multi-layer, strong, smooth and durable. This enables the balloon to withstand the acid, enzymes and motility forces within the stomach environment. It is also bacteria resistant.

The valve: designed to be used with gas, reliable, leak-free and radiopaque. This enables the balloon to maintain the inflation state during the full 6-month course of treatment. The balloons can always be viewed with digital imaging.

The capsule and catheter make the Obalon Balloon System the ONLY FDA-approved swallowable weight loss balloon. The capsule contains the fully folded balloon and the catheter is designed to be ejected, not forcefully removed.

The gas makes the Obalon Balloon System the ONLY FDA-approved gas-filled weight loss balloon. Gas makes the balloon lightweight and buoyant. The proprietary nitrogen gas mixture is designed to reliably maintain the balloon inflation state during the full 6-month treatment period.

Who is the right candidate for the Obalon Balloon System?

Individuals with the body mass index (BMI) from 30 to 40 kg/m2 and are 22 years or older are candidates for the Obalon Balloon System. They must be willing to follow a 12-month program which begins with the placement of the balloon for up to 6 months. The program also includes a healthy diet and exercise program during the time they have the balloon and for six months after the balloons are removed.
