Body Lift Procedure in Palm Beach Gardens
A Body Lift or belt lipectomy is a procedure in which the excess skin from the entire body is lift and/or removed from problematic areas and reshaped to form a new body. Many people who lose massive amounts of weight, whether through diet and exercise or bariatric surgery, are left with sagging skin and stubborn deposits of fat on various parts of their bodies, especially around the midsection. This can make it difficult for a person that has lost the weight to embrace their new body and find clothes that fit properly. It also can make them more vulnerable to skin infections and causing self-consciousness and general discomfort. When getting a body lift, these problems are ultimately eliminated.
A body lift can be performed on the lower torso and upper legs including the abdomen, waist, inner/outer thighs, buttocks, and/or hips. Liposuction may also be performed in conjunction with a body lift to remove any excess fatty tissue that remains.
Reasons for considering a Body Lift
Patients consider a Body Lift if they are looking to:
- Correct the contouring of midsection of the body.
- Replace and remove excess skin due to aging and weight loss.
- Reshape the stomach after multiple pregnancies.
Are you a good candidate for a Body Lift?
You may be a good candidate for a Body Lift surgery if:
- You have lost significant weight and your skin is now loose in one or multiple body areas
- You are healthy and without medical conditions that impair healing or increase risk of surgery
- You are committed to leading a healthy lifestyle with proper nutrition and fitness
- You have realistic expectations. It is very helpful to look at Before and After pictures to assist you with you expectations and your decision process.
- You do not smoke. If you are a smoker, you are strongly encouraged to refrain from smoking for at least a week prior to your surgery date and continue to refrain from smoking for two weeks or until your incisions have healed. This will promote faster healing and reduce the risk of infection.
What a Body Lift won’t do
A body lift is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program. Furthermore, a body lift cannot correct stretch marks, although these may be removed or somewhat improved if they are located on the areas of excess skin that will be excised.
How is the surgery performed?
Our expert CRNAs will place the patient under IV sedation. Different patients undergo different types of body lifts, however all the surgeries are generally the same. With incisions ranging from the thighs, buttocks lower back, hips, and waist, the excess skin is removed. When the fat and skin have been removed, the skin is then pulled and stitched. A body lift is one of the longest cosmetic procedures ranging from three to eight hours in length.
An exciting new medication called Exparel wil be used to minimize post-operative pain. This medicine has revolutionized the abdominoplasty procedure as it dramatically reduced the pain by utilizing a patented, time release medication that is injected at the end of the surgery around the sensitive muscles. Many patients report almost no pain after this procedure.
A compression garment is then placed which must be worn for about one month.

Like most procedures, a body lift requires plenty of rest and limited movement is recommended. The areas that were performed on may require a compression wrap to heal the wounds and keep the swelling down. With the addition of the pain pump, the recovery discomfort is significantly reduced. You will require plenty of rest for a couple days, but you should be able to return to driving and basic activities in 2-3 days. The tiny pain pump catheters are removed easily after 3 days, and the drain that was placed to remove the healing fluids is removed after about one week. Almost all the sutures placed are self dissolving. The few that remain are removed after one week.
Prescription pain medications are used for several days then over the counter pain relievers are used for about 10 more days. The discomfort levels vary from patient to patient. Our caring and highly trained staff is here to help and support you from your initial consultation through your recovery. The doctors are just a phone call away 24-7 for you after any surgical procedure.
