Liposuction in Palm Beach Gardens
or Lipoplasty is a procedure that slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and improving your body contours and proportion, and ultimately, enhancing your self image..Liposuction techniques may be used to reduce localized fat deposits of the:
- Hips and buttocks
- Abdomen and waist
- Upper arms
- Inner knee
- Chest area
- Underneath the chin and neck
- Calves and ankles
Liposuction can be performed alone or along with other plastic surgery procedures, such as a Facelift, Breast Reduction or Tummy Tuck. It can be performed wherever there are excess fat deposits and quite often more than one area is treated at a time during surgery. The results are immediate and impressive.
If you’re having a problem losing weight in certain areas, this procedure could be the solution for you. This should not be your solution to weight loss, just a treatment for those stubborn areas. Liposuction can dramatically or subtly provide for a more symmetrical appearance.
Reasons for considering Liposuction
If you are bothered by excess fat deposits, located anywhere on your body, that don’t respond to diet or exercise, liposuction may be right for you
Are you a good candidate for Liposuction?
You may be a good candidate for liposuction surgery if:
- You are physically healthy
- You have realistic expectations. It is very helpful to look at Before and After (link) pictures to assist you with you expectations and your decision process.
- You are an adult within 30% of your ideal weight and have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone
- You do not smoke. If you are a smoker, you are strongly encouraged to refrain from smoking for at least a week prior to your surgery date and continue to refrain from smoking for two weeks or until your incisions have healed. This will promote faster healing and reduce the risk of infection.
What Liposuction won’t do
Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite or loose saggy skin.
How is the procedure performed?
In many cases, Dr. DeLange uses his special technique of standing Liposuction, which only requires local anesthesia. The area of interest is first treated with a dilute saline solution containing lidocaine and epinephrine to shrink the small blood vessels that can cause bruising (Tumescent solution). A small cannula is placed into the problem area under the skin, and the fatty tissue is removed by a vacuum process through the narrow tube. We usually use a technically advanced system that vibrates the cannula thus minimizing the trauma to the area. This approach minimizes bruising and pain following the procedure. After the surgery is complete, the areas are then compressed with a garment to minimize bruising and reduce swelling. The entire procedure requires from 30 minutes to two hours depending on the areas treated and most patients go home within 30 minutes after the procedure.

After surgery, you just should stay home and rest in the 24 hours following surgery. Prescription pain medication is usually taken for a day or two then over the counter pain relievers can subdue any aches and pains that remain. A compression garment is usually worn for 24/7 for two weeks after the procedure, then 12 hours per day for two more weeks. The results are quick and often dramatic and very rewarding!
