Cellfina is the latest technology intended for long-term improvement in the appearance of cellulite in the buttocks and thigh areas of adult females. It is an FDA-cleared, minimally invasive, one-time procedure.Cellfina works because it targets the primary structural cause of cellulite, resulting in a smooth look that gives patients the confidence to wear a bathing suit and shorter skirts and shorts.
How does Cellfina work?
Cellfina works by releasing the fibrous bands under the skin known as “septae” that can pull down skin and create cellulite. Cellfina is not the first FDA-approved device for cellulite. There have been other devices that have claimed to get rid of cellulite using laser or radio-frequency energy producing mild to moderate benefits. These treatments, however, only had temporary effects as they did not change the underlying structure of cellulite.
Cellfina, on the other hand, targets the architecture of the skin and the fat associated with dimpling. By releasing the fibrous bands of connective tissue that pull on the skin from the fat below, Cellfina allows the skin’s surface to become more flat and even rather than having an undulating or cottage-cheese appearance.
Benefits of the Cellfina Treatment:
- Long Lasting results
- Single, in-office treatment
- Significant, rapid improvement
- Minimally invasive
- Effective and well tolerated
- Limited downtime
- 96% patient satisfaction at two years
Under the Skin
To be a good candidate for the Cellfina procedure, a woman should be close to her ideal bodyweight. Women who are significantly overweight have extra fat underneath the skin, which creates more weight to the skin. In this case, Cellfina would not be as effective in reducing cellulite’s appearance in these women.
The in-office procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the individual patient and the number of areas being treated. During the procedure, the dimples are identified and marked and a device is then used to inject an anesthetic liquid under the skin to numb the treatment area. Next, the same device is used to attach a suction cup to the dimpled skin in order to stabilize it. A physician then inserts a tiny needle into the skin to cut the fibrous bands of connective tissue. This procedure is repeated until all marked dimples are treated.
Some patients will need Tylenol for pain relief afterward. Women are also advised to wear Spanx or a similar compression garment every day for a week following the procedure.
What are the side effects associated with Cellfina?
The side effects of Cellfina may include bruising, swelling, soreness and red dots in the area where the suction cups and needle were used. Due to the tiny needle used to release the fibrous bands, there is no scarring associated with the procedure. Once the fibrous bands are released, they do not appear to grow back and reform cellulite.
Within three days of treatment, patients in the pivotal study reported feeling extremely satisfied with their results. Our physicians typically advise their patients to give the treated area about 2 to 3 months before expecting to see improvements from the procedure. However, many women have claimed they can see a difference in their skin within a week if they do not have much swelling and bruising. In the pivotal study, over 90 percent of patients had no bruising at four weeks.
Cellfina Treatment Cost
Cost of a Cellfina Treatment is determined by the amount of cellulite or number of dimples treated. The range in treatment cost is between $3000 and $6000. A quote will be given during a complimentary consultation and patient’s goals are determined.
