Male Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia, informally known as “man boobs”, is a common condition in men and boys. The breasts swell and become abnormally large. Gynecomastia is not a serious problem. However, it may be psychologically difficult to cope with. Apart from affecting self-confidence and causing embarrassment, some men and boys may also experience pain in their breasts.
The cause of this unwanted tissue is often unknown, but the problem associated with having excess breast tissue is very bothersome to men of all ages. Frequently known causes of the problem include, anabolic steroid use, marijuana smoking, and certain stomach acid medications.
Men who have excess skin and tissue in their breast can elect to have a procedure performed called Gynecomastia Repair, also known as Male Breast Reduction. This common problem is easily resolved with a surgical procedure that usually combines a small amount of liposuction link and direct excision of the hard tissue behind the areola. Access to the abnormal tissue is accomplished via a 2.5 cm incision around the areola. This scar resolves quickly a few weeks after the procedure. The surgery is usually completed in about one hour under local anesthesia or IV sedation. After the procedure, a compression wrap is placed that must be worn for about one week. The pain after surgery is minimal, and the satisfaction from the results is immense.
