Breast Augmentation, also referred to as Augmentation Mammoplasty, or Breast Aug, is a surgical procedure that reshapes and enlarges the breasts. It is our most popular procedure and can provide an amazing improvement in your beauty and self esteem. Breast Augmentation is usually performed to enlarge small underdeveloped breasts or breasts that have lost their shape due to having children or weight loss.
The breast implants can consist of either saline or silicone depending on what our surgeons think will be best for the patient. We offer the newest implant designs and techniques to achieve a natural looking and sexy volume enhancement.
Reasons for considering a Breast Augmentation
A Breast Augmentation is a procedure you should consider if you want to:
- Enlarge small breasts.
- Make breasts larger after having children or breast feeding.
- To reshape the breast and give a fuller appearance.
- Restore breasts that have undergone lumpectomy or mastectomy.
Are you a good candidate for Breast Augmentation?
Breast Augmentation is a very personal procedure and you should do it for yourself, not for someone else. You may be a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery if:
- You are physically healthy
- Have realistic expectations. It is very helpful to look at Before and After pictures to assist you with you expectations and your decision process.
- Your breasts are fully developed
- You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts are too small
- You are dissatisfied with your breasts losing shape and volume after pregnancy, weight loss, or with aging
- Your breasts are asymmetrical
- One or both of your breasts failed to develop normally
- One or both of your breasts have an elongated shape
- You are well informed about how the procedure is performed and the potential risks.
What Breast Augmentation Surgery won’t do
Breast Augmentation does not correct severely drooping breasts. If you want your breasts to look fuller and to be lifted due to sagging, a Breast Lift may be required in conjunction with breast augmentation. Breast lifting can often be done at the same time as your augmentation or may require a separate operation. Our surgeon will assist you in making this decision.
How is the procedure performed?
Our expert Anesthesia team will place the patient under IV sedation. The Breast Augmentation is performed by surgically inserting breast implants through a small incision made below the breast or in the lower part of the areola. Prior to the surgery, the doctor and the patient will discuss the best place to insert the implant. In order to achieve the desired volume and shape, Dr. DeLange discusses at length with each patient, what their ideal implant size selection will be. Once the incisions are made, the surgeon creates a pocket either behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or beneath the pectoralis major muscle or chest muscle (submuscular). Other positions include the advanced subfascial technique or dual plane procedure. The breast implants are positioned within the pocket and the incisions are then closed with layered sutures and tape.
It usually takes about one hour to perform and most patients go home within 30 minutes after the procedure. At Estetica institute, we have dramatically improved this procedure and the post-operative discomfort by avoiding any bleeding and manipulating the muscle and breast tissue very gently. In addition, long acting anesthetic blocks area injected around the ribs at the end of the procedure thus almost eliminating any pain for several hours after the procedure.

How long does the surgery last?
Typically, a Breast Augmentation procedure takes about one hour to perform. Patient will recover for about a half-hour after the procedure, and then may go home.
Can I drive myself home?
You cannot drive yourself home after the surgery. We suggest that you arrange for a ride home with a friend or relative. We are happy to help you arrange for a ride and some overnight help if necessary.
What happens after surgery? What is the recovery process?
After surgery, you just should stay home and rest in the 24 hours following surgery. You will be sent home with a package of instructions. Patients may take a shower 48 hours after surgery. Patients will wear a surgical bra that we provide for about a week. Following the rest period, we recommend an early return to normal activity, being mindful of extra strenuous activities or workouts. After seven days, the patient will return to the facility to have her sutures removed and easy breast massage techniques are taught to minimize the chance of capsular contractures.
Of course, we provide pain medications that you probably need to take for only a couple of days, although the discomfort levels vary from patient to patient. Our caring and highly trained staff is here to help from your initial consultation through your recovery. The doctors are just a phone call away 24-7 for you after any surgical procedure.
How do I decide the right size of implants to get?
This decision comes down to personal preference and the surgeon’s professional assessment. It is very helpful to look at Before and After photos to assist you with you expectations and your decision process. In your pre-surgery consultation, you may want to bring in pictures of women whose breasts you admire. Estetica Institute offers an advanced sizer system that allows patients to visualize what they will look like after the procedure with different size implants. This system almost guarantees achieving the right size implant for your body and desired look. The ideal implant size selection will be discussed at length in order to achieve the desired volume and shape. In addition, prior to the surgery, the doctor and the patient will discuss the best place to insert the implant.
Plastic surgery is very safe when performed by board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeons in a surgery center that is licensed, like Estetica Institute. However, each patient must be viewed as a case-by-case basis and should be cleared prior to undergoing plastic surgery. Therefore, our patients have a formal history and physical examination and a full set of laboratories done prior to general anesthesia when the surgeon considers it necessary. Consequently, during your consultation, our surgeon and patient coordinator will discuss the potential risks, complications, and side effects of the surgery.
