A Mommy Makeover combines a Tummy Tuck and a Breast Surgery!
Tummy Tuck Surgery
Tummy Tuck Surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen. In most cases it also restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.
We all strive for a flat and well-toned abdomen through exercise and weight control. Unfortunately, sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals. The abdominoplasty procedure is one of the most exciting and life-changing procedures we perform at Estetica Institute. In just two hours, a loose and bulging abdomen can be transformed into a tight, sexy stomach. During a tummy tuck procedure, the muscles of the abdominal wall are also tightened to eliminate the bulge that can be so annoying particularly after pregnancy.
Reasons for considering a Tummy Tuck
· Remove skin that has lost elasticity after extreme weight loss.
· Tighten loose abdominal muscles due to pregnancy or weight gain.
· Achieve a more youthful abdomen and remove any unwanted fatty deposits. Even individuals of otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging.
Are you a good candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
The best candidate for an Abdominoplasty is someone in relatively good shape that is bothered by large fatty deposits or loose skin that won’t respond to diet or exercise. You may be a good candidate for a Tummy Tuck surgery if:
· You’re physically healthy
· Have excess skin in your abdomen that will not improve with diet or exercise.
· The shape of your abdomen has been affected by pregnancy or massive weight loss.
· You feel that your protruding abdomen is unattractive.
· You have realistic expectations. It is very helpful to look at Before and After pictures to assist you with you expectations and your decision process.
What a Tummy Tuck won’t do
Abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program. Although the results of a tummy tuck are technically permanent, the positive outcome can be greatly diminished by significant fluctuations in your weight. For this reason, individuals who are planning substantial weight loss or women who may be considering future pregnancies would be advised to postpone a tummy tuck.
How is the surgery performed?
Our expert Anesthesia team will place the patient under IV sedation. The surgery can last between one and three hours. A tummy tuck is performed by making incisions along the lower abdomen at the level of the bikini line. The skin is separated from the muscle area up to the level of the ribs and the excess is removed. The muscles are sutured back together and any hernias that exist are repaired. The skin is then closed in several layers to achieve the best scar possible.
An exciting new medication called Exparel will be used to minimize post-operative pain. This medicine has revolutionized the abdominoplasty procedure as it dramatically reduced the pain by utilizing a patented, time release medication that is injected at the end of the surgery around the sensitive muscles. Many patients report almost no pain after this procedure.
A compression garment is then placed which must be worn for about one month.
Where is the surgery performed?
The surgery is performed in Estetica Institute’s accredited surgical center, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Our surgeries are performed at our state of the art surgical Operating Rooms by a highly trained staff of professionals who all maintain the highest credentials. Our facility is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF).
How long does the surgery take?
Typically, an abdominoplasty takes about one to three hours to perform. Patient will recover for about a half-hour after the procedure and then may go home.
Can I drive myself home?
You cannot drive yourself home after the surgery. We suggest that you arrange for a ride home with a friend or relative. We are happy to help you arrange for a ride and some overnight help if necessary.
What happens after surgery? What is the recovery process?
After surgery, you just should stay home and rest for the 24 hours following surgery. You will be sent home with a package of instructions. Patients may take a shower 48 hours after surgery.
With the addition of Exparel, the recovery discomfort is significantly reduced. You will require plenty of rest for a couple days, but you should be able to return to driving and basic activities in 2-3 days. The small drain that was placed to remove the healing fluids is removed after about one week. Almost all the sutures placed are self dissolving. The few that remain are removed after one week.
Prescription pain medications are used for several days then over the counter pain relievers are used for about 10 more days. The discomfort levels vary from patient to patient. Our caring and highly trained staff is here to help and support you from your initial consultation through your recovery. The doctors are just a phone call away 24-7 for you after any surgical procedure.
