What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is one of the newest and longest-lasting dermal fillers on the market. It is made from poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic but biocompatible (not harmful to the body) material that has a decades-long history of being used safely for a variety of medical purposes, including threads for surgical sutures. In 2009, the Food and Drug Administration approved Sculptra for cosmetic purposes, although the filler had been approved earlier (2004) to add volume to the cheeks of HIV positive patients with facial fat loss (lipoatrophy). The filler has been used cosmetically in Europe since 1999 where it’s called New-Fill.

How Sculptra Works

Over time, your skin loses its full, firm, youthful appearance. This is the result of the natural aging process. Your skin becomes thinner and loses its natural elasticity. As a result, it becomes loose and starts to wrinkle. Fat tissue, which also helps to fill out your face, is lost or migrates lower, causing skin to sag and further wrinkle. This reduction in skin volume can make your face look thin and narrow thus making you appear older than you are. Fortunately, with Sculptra in West Palm Beach, available at our office, you can address these signs of aging and regain a more youthful look.

Unlike surgical options, Sculptra can provide gradual, natural looking results with less trauma or invasive treatments. Sculptra works in the lower layers of the skin to smooth and firm the treated areas of the face. At our office in West Palm Beach Sculptra procedures can be performed in as little as 30 minutes. In contrast to some other treatments that require frequent refresher sessions, a clinical study has shown that the aesthetic improvements obtained with Sculptra have persisted for up to 2 years in many patients.

What to expect during treatment with Sculptra®

There may be some discomfort with the procedure. The most common side effects with the use of Sculptra include injection-related side effects at the site of injection, such as tenderness or pain, redness, bruising, or swelling. These effects generally last, on average, 2-6 days. After treatment, you should notice gradual results over the next three months.

Which areas does Sculptra Aesthetic treat?

Sculptra is used to correct shallow to deep wrinkles and folds on the face. Administered with the appropriate injection technique from a trained specialist, Sculptra is clinically approved for:

  • Deep folds between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), also called “smile lines”
  • Lines framing the mouth (marionette lines)
  • Chin wrinkles
  • Hollows in the cheek area

How many treatments with Sculptra are required?

On average, a series of three Sculptra treatment sessions over the course of a few months may be needed. The number of injections at each session will vary depending on the degree of correction needed and the treatment plan determined by you and your specialist.

SculptraFrequently Asked Questions

Sculptra is designed to give you noticeable results that emerge gradually and can last more than two years. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t see immediate results. A few days after treatment, you may look as you did before treatment. This is normal and temporary. The Sculptra regimen delivers its full effects with an average of three treatment sessions over the course of a few months. Because results happen gradually, you’ll see subtle, yet noticeable, results in the reduction of facial wrinkles and folds by comparing images before treatment and a couple months following treatment.

Sculptra dermal filler has some very unique properties that differentiate it from other fillers. The results can be superlative and with a combination of Botox and/or Dysport can achieve a phenomenal Liquid Facelift. The results can be dramatic providing a youthful, symmetric, invigorated look. Sculptra is different from other dermal fillers in that it is not a gel or other substance that is injected to erase a specific wrinkle or fold. Sculptra works entirely by stimulating the body to create its own new collagen. When done correctly, this creates a more gradual and very natural increase in facial volume which is why it is so popular among celebrities.

Since injection costs will vary from person to person, the best way to determine projected costs for Sculptra is to visit with your doctor. Average total treatment package costs can range from $1,500 to $3,500, depending on many factors, including:

  • Number of treatment sessions needed
  • Number of Sculptra vials used per session
  • Degree of necessary correction determined by you and your specialist
