Breast Augmentation, also referred to as Augmentation Mammoplasty, or Breast Aug, is a surgical procedure that reshapes and enlarges the breasts. What Breast Augmentation Surgery won’t do

Breast Augmentation does not correct severely drooping breasts. If you want your breasts to look fuller and to be lifted due to sagging, a Breast Lift may be required in conjunction with breast augmentation. Breast lifting can often be done at the same time as your augmentation or may require a separate operation. Our surgeon will assist you in making this decision.

How is the procedure performed?

Our expert Anesthesia team will place the patient under IV sedation. The Breast Augmentation is performed by surgically inserting breast implants through a small incision made below the breast or in the lower part of the areola. Prior to the surgery, the doctor and the patient will discuss the best place to insert the implant. In addition, ideal implant size selection will be discussed at length in order to achieve the desired volume and shape. Once the incisions are made, the surgeon creates a pocket either behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or beneath the pectoralis major muscle or chest muscle (submuscular). Other positions include the advanced subfascial technique or dual plane procedure. The breast implants are positioned within the pocket and the incisions are then closed with layered sutures and tape.

It usually takes about one hour to perform and most patients go home within 30 minutes after the procedure. At Estetica institute, we have dramatically improved this procedure and the post-operative discomfort by avoiding any bleeding and manipulating the muscle and breast tissue very gently. In addition, long acting anesthetic blocks area injected around the ribs at the end of the procedure thus almost eliminating any pain for several hours after the procedure.

Where is the surgery performed?

The surgery is performed in Estetica Institute’s accredited surgical center, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida by our breast augmentation surgeon. Our surgeries are performed at our state of the art operating rooms by a highly trained staff of professionals who all maintain the highest credentials. How long does the surgery last?

Typically, a Breast Augmentation procedure takes about one hour to perform. Patient will recover for about a half-hour after the procedure, and then may go home.

Can I drive myself home?

You cannot drive yourself home after the surgery. We suggest that you arrange for a ride home with a friend or relative. We are happy to help you arrange for a ride and some overnight help if necessary.

What happens after surgery? What is the recovery process?

After surgery, you just should stay home and rest in the 24 hours following surgery. You will be sent home with a package of instructions. Patients may take a shower 48 hours after surgery. Patients will wear a surgical bra that we provide for about a week. Following the rest period, we recommend an early return to normal activity, being mindful of extra strenuous activities or workouts. After seven days, the patient will return to the facility to have her sutures removed and easy breast massage techniques are taught to minimize the chance of capsular contractures.

Of course, we provide pain medications that you probably need to take for only a couple of days, although the discomfort levels vary from patient to patient. How do I decide the right size of implants to get?

This decision comes down to personal preference and the surgeon’s professional assessment.
