Plastic surgery trends – Reports by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons indicates that breast augmentation maybe the most popular cosmetic procedure performed in the U.S. for the second year in a row.
These statistics show that 290,467 patients opted for breast augmentation surgery. The popularity of breast augmentation procedures can likely be contributed to a number of factors including the affordability of the procedure, the continued improvement in technology seen each year, and the fact that it caters to a very large percentage of the population is spiking plastic surgery trends.
Surgical and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures reached an estimated 17.1 million procedures in 2016. Cosmetic surgical procedures saw an overall increase of 4 percent, compared to minimally invasive procedures, which grew by only 3 percent.
Additionally, facelifts increased in popularity in the past year, as well. Also among the most popular plastic surgery procedures were; liposuction with 235,237 procedures, nose reshaping with 223,018 procedures, and eyelid surgery with 209,020 procedures.
Botulinum Toxin Type A was among the minimally invasive procedures which saw the greatest increase of 4 percent in 2016. Soft tissue fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removal and microdermabrasion showed significant increases as well.
Fat grafting is another procedure which has seen a recent increase. Specifically breast augmentation using fat grafting saw of 72 percent increase in 2016. This procedure involves harvesting fat from one body part and placing it into another body part, commonly the buttocks and breasts. It is said that this trend can be attributed to the idea of “less is more”. By and large, an ideology that is gaining popularity in plastic surgery.
An increase in social media and online resources have played a significant role in the type of procedures requested. This combined with improvements in technology are showing patients that there are techniques which can provide more natural-looking results.
